8-31-2015 - The Quad Project Part 2

A new fuel valve, o-ring, and a new battery.

The last part came in today, a three dollar o-ring, so this afternoon we got the quad put back together and started it up... It ran like brand new! Surprised me but I'm very happy about it.
Test drove it for awhile and what fun it was...Good times!

I know it paid off shutting the fuel valve and running the motor out of gas the last time I ran it…Years ago.

Test drive complete, next will be a oil change and fluid check.

8-31-2015 - ANOTHER NEW HOBBY!

Yeppers another new hobby, Dustin brought his crossbow over a couple of weeks ago and we shot it in the back yard, fun times...

I ordered one and it finally came in today so the late morning and early afternoon was spent target practicing.

It's cheaper than shooting firearms and almost as much fun, can be done at home and it's quite...

8-23-2015 - Abby Story

I have been taking the dogs out though the front door for months, several weeks ago I noticed Abby sitting, waiting for me to open the door and watching me as I pushed the latch opening the door. I thought then that she was thinking about what I was doing and in the time since I have seen her stand on her back paws and push on the latch handle with her front paw. I also noticed her watching me pull weeds from the garden beds and give them to the chickens, a few days later I saw her jump up on the storm door with a long piece of watermelon vine in her mouth, I swear she looked so proud of herself I couldn't scold her, I got up to let her in and saw several more pieces of plants laying in front of the door.

The trash pickup accrues on Mondays around 4:00 AM so I put the trash out on Sundays. This morning I gathered the trash and took the can out to the road from the back porch, I left both dogs in the house. Not remembering if the front door was locked or not I went back though the back door into the house. Herc came up to me and wondering where Abby was I looked around and saw her jumping up on the front storm door from the outside, OMG. Trouble is here……..

8-21-2015 - Chanterelle mushroom

We were on the 37 acres and found this Chanterelle mushroom. It got cooked up and was so good…

8-21-2015 - The Quad Project Part 1

Such a beautiful day decided to try to get some thing done outside, Dustin brought a battery from his R6 over and we dug the quad out of the shed and started to work on getting it running. We siphoned the old gas out of the gas tank and before putting new gas in I took a look in the tank with a flashlight.

I'm sure glad I did, it looked like a trash dump in the bottom of the tank. We took the tank off and found that it was worst than it looked, the California "gasoline" had cause the fuel level sensor to corrode the steel rod for the float was caked with rust and the wiper looked like it was attacked by acid like you would see on corroded battery posts. All of the screens inside the tank were wasted and falling apart, we cleaned it out as well as we could and I flushed it out with the garden hose, so now it is air drying. Plan to used an external fuel filter and not worry about the fuel level right now.

We rigged up a hose to a fuel can and after turning the motor over by hand, I pulled the choke knob and turned the key, the motor started right up and ran smooth accelerated well, sound really good. I think it paid off shutting the fuel valve and running the motor out of gas the last time I ran it…Years ago.

Just another day in my life here in the Ozarks...

8-20-2015 Another day on the range.

Dustin and I went out to Gist Ranch to use the shooting range, we found the range closed to the public for some Law Enforcement Officer training so we decided to go to another Missouri Conservation Department range at White Ranch located south of West Plains. We found the range and were the only ones there. We learned that the range only had a 50 yard range with paths at 25, 15, and 7 yard and a 100 yard range. The benches were out in the open without a cover so the sun was a factor as I didn’t even bring a hat.

I brought four rifles all having iron sights, and quickly learned that even at 50 yard my eye sight was not working well with the iron sights, really needed scopes on these rifles to get tight groups. Shooting my Henry Golden Boy was odd having to hold a hand above the the receiver to block the glare. The Marlin 1894 in 44 magnum ran out of adjustment for the sights, at full adjustment I was shooting about 10 to 12 inches high, some gunsmithing will be required to get the rear sight lower. The Marlin 1895 in 45-70 got a lot closer and would work alright if I could see better.

We both agreed that the range at Gist Ranch is much nicer and we lucked out finding it first. Still had a good time punching holes in targets…

Dustin shooting he's 22lr

Here you can see the paths between the bench and the targets, and the 100 yard range on the right hand side of the picture.

8-15-2015 - Power outage.

11:00 AM
The power went out awhile ago so not being able to waste time on the computer I decided to go out and mow... Mower in the garage, garage door works off electricity, too much stuff in garage to get to the manual release for the door. Decided to play the guitar, Abby never hearing me play freaks out and hides in the bedroom, or maybe my playing is just that bad... Just enjoying the peace and quiet... So Nice!

3:00 PM
The Power is back on, the garage got opened, most of the grass got mowed, the chickens got feed (forgot to mention the chicken feed was in the garage) and it is still pretty quiet... The power is back on in time for the Chiefs game. It's a good day! Now if I just had some Ice cream....

8-3-2015 - Floating the river.

Dustin and I took the inflatable boats over to the river and spent about 4-1/2 hours floating down the river, very relaxing and beautiful, Good Times…

Suffering a little for it now, missed a couple on spots with the sun screen, upper knees and above my inside right ache…ouch!
