November 11, 2014 - Veterans Day "Thank you for your service"

"I don't have to be perfect. All I have to do is show and enjoy the messy, imperfect and beautiful journey of my life. It's a trip more wonderful than I could have imagined." - Kerry Washington

Sunny cold day, the high was 36 degrees, burrrrrrrrr.
I took the day off to stay warm, work will wait!

Herc is chasing a fly around the house, don't know where the fly came from, but Herc makes me laugh he's so silly.

November 10, 2014 - National Forget-Me-Not Day

“Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.” - Mahatma Gandhi

Sunny Windy Day, 69 degrees, forecasted low of 45 degrees, 18 mph wind out of the South, 31% humidity, 20% of rain tonight.

I woke up this morning in my bed next to a warm body, not in a cell, not in a casket, not in a hospital, so I am thankful for another unpromised day… This is a good day for a good day.

I really wanted to take the day off and relax but I looked at the forecast and today was the only day in the next ten days that will be warm enough to paint, so I went to work on the chicken coop. Moved the coop over to the yard so I could paint it without getting paint on the carport, that was a job by itself. Made the other door and installed it. It turned out to be a beautiful day although it was really windy. Then I painted the coop with the paint that I picked out at the home improvement center, it looked darker in the store, I think it’s too bright and of course I ran out of paint… The paint dried quickly with the help of the wind so I put the shingles on the roof and of course I ran out of them too. Adjusted the layout of the shingles and it’ll do for now. It’s time for the wire and perches but that will have to wait, I’m done for today…also want to make some retractable wheels to make it easier to move, it has gotten pretty heavy.

The neighbor saw me working outside so Mr. Younger stopped by and introduced himself, I finally met my next door neighbor, he seems like a really nice person. He even offer to let me park my trailer on his property, which I thought was nice of him.

Sunny day 61 degrees, forecasted low of 42 degrees, 33% humidity, 7 mph wind out of the Southwest, 0% chance of rain.

Made the main door and installed it sounds simple but it took a lot longer than I thought it would, then called it a day.

November 8, 2014 - National Parents Act as Teachers Day

Started out Cloudy and turned into a Sunny day 52 degrees, forecasted low of 31 degrees, 48% humidity, 4 mph wind out of the North Northwest, 0% chance of rain.

Went to town and picked up some more supplies, I was going to take the day off and rest but when I got home I just started working and 4 hours later I put stuff away and took a hot shower; and it felt good…my back is hurt but I’m happy with what I got done. Got the other three nest box unit done, so I still have the doors to build and then I can paint it, then I can install the wire, add some roofing and call it done.

Another day here in the Ozarks…

November 7, 2014 - National Bittersweet Chocolate with Almonds Day

Sunny day 54 degrees, forecasted low of 41 degrees, 42% humidity, 11 mph wind out of the South, 0% chance of rain.

31 degrees when I woke up this morning so I did some virtual farming until it warmed up enough to work outside, then went to work on the chicken coop. Got the center supports in for the roof and built a three nest box unit on one side, planning to build another one for the other side but I don’t have enough plywood to make it so another trip to town… need some more 2x4s for the doors too.

That’s my day here in the Ozarks…

November 6, 2014 - National Men Make Dinner Day (Must Cook. No BBQ Allowed! :) – First Thursday in November

“Well, we all make mistakes, dear, so just put it behind you. We should regret our mistakes and learn from them, but never carry them forward into the future with us.” - L.M. Montgomery

Sunny day 52 degrees, forecasted low of 30 degrees, 42% humidity, 13 mph wind out of the North Northwest, 0% chance of rain.

Made the long trip to town and picked up more supplies for the chicken coop, came home and got to work, although it was too cold for me at 50 degrees and a 13 mph wind. I really wanted to work on the project so added another sweatshirt and went to work. When I started this project I really didn’t know how I’d build it so I started with the part I had a clear vision of; the top, now I needed a base to sit it on (a foundation) which is where one should start but not me. Had a hard time getting the top on the bottom but I got the two together today, and I’m happy with the way it’s coming together.

After several hours of working it this windy cool weather I gave up, packed up and went home, well I went in the house and took to a nice long hot shower…

I was talking to Scott (my mail carrier) today about life and life styles and life in general, he mentioned that he saw two large bucks (male deer) standing on the road next to the 37 acres I have on county road 3780. Total coolness…

November 5, 2014 – National Doughnut Day

Mostly cloudy day 55 degrees, forecasted low of 42 degrees, 68% humidity, 6 mph wind out of the South Southwest, 0% chance of rain.

Waited for the morning to warm up before going out to work, 40 degrees is a little low for me to go outside to work when I don’t have to…sure wish I had a workshop to use on cool or rainy days. Another project; build workshop! Waited until noon, it was 50 degrees so off I went and worked on the chicken coop. took some pictures this time.

The back and the bottom will be removable for easier cleaning... Need to pick up some more material and paint to finish this project so yet another trip to town.

New fungus coming up in the yard, this stuff in hard.
