November 29 2014 - Electronic Greetings Day

“If you really want to do something, you'll find a way. If you don't, you'll find an excuse.” - Jim Rohn

Clear Day, 70 degrees, forecasted low of 54 degrees, 8 mph wind out of the South, 91% humidity, 10% of rain.

This is the warmest day we’ve had in a couple of weeks, it has been cold and windy, we got a little snow which didn’t stay around for long within a few hours it was gone. My projects were put on hold and I have been spending most of my time on the computer and watching TV. Retirement is so ruff.

It was so nice today I took advantage of the warm weather and worked on the chicken coop, I was able to finish installing the wire but it took everything I had, my back is hurting again but I got all the wire installed… The new pneumatic stapler made it possible, without it I might have gotten one or two pieces done. Still have a few more thing to do but it’s almost done, I learned a lot about what to do differently if  I ever build another one. That’s what life is all about isn’t it?

Yesterday it was in the 50s and Herc and I went out and played Frisbee, he really enjoyed it, I think he was getting cabin fever…
Last night Herc wanted under the covers so I let him get under them which I didn’t mind he helps keep me warm too so we work together… Well that sounded like a good idea, until about 3:40 this morning and I get awoke and after a moment I realize that he had his butt pressed into my back and he was having some kind of a dream where he is running, so my back is getting hit with his back paws quickly and repeatedly. Well I moved him over and tried to go back to sleep, but here I sit wide awake tell you my store and Herc is under the covers snoring.

We had a pretty bad thunderstorm the other day it didn’t last long but the thunder was real loud and Herc got scared again and since then he has not wanted me out of his sight. Another thing that has happen is he is uneasy about the kitchen which I don’t understand but he won’t eat in there unless it is bright and I’m in there with him, if I’m in there and it’s dark he won’t eat, if it’s bright and I step away he stops eating, well I figured that when he got hungry that he would eat so I didn’t worry about it but after several days of seeing the same food in his bowl I needed to step in and get him to eat so I stood there and he ate all of his food and wanted more…

There’s been a squirrel hanging around the house, running from tree to tree in the front yard, and I’ve seen it on the back porch rail too. Herc gets so excited when he sees it and what to go after it. Must think of it is a chew toy…lol

November 21, 2014 - National Stuffing Day

“When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us.” - Helen Keller

Cloudy Day, 43 degrees, forecasted low of 40 degrees, 8 mph wind out of the Southeast, 91% humidity, 20% of rain.

I got two dormant cold hardy fig trees from eBay but I’m out of potting mix so I made another trip to town, picked up some at the home center. While I was there I looked at and decided to get a pneumatic stapler and staples to finish the coop project, nailing the wire on by hand was really hurting my back. The shortest staples they had are 1” long which I got but I wanted some shorter ones so I ordered some 1/2" and 5/8” long ones online.

When I got home I planted the fig trees in two of the bucket garden pots that were empty and got cold while doing it so came in and got warmed up ate lunch, watched a movie and relaxed…

Made a disturbing discovery today as I was putting some groceries away, I found a bread bag that was on top of the refrigerator it had two heals in the bag that had gotten pushed behind a box of sweetener. The disturbing part wasn’t that it was hidden, but that it had been there for at least two months, this was a name brand wholegrain bread and I noticed that there was no mold the heals were soft and even smelled fresh. WHAT! Are you kidding! What kind of “food” are we being sold?
Bread didn’t use to last for months. This has made me rethink what I eat and buy that’s called food…

Got a little rain this afternoon but to get excited about...

November 20, 2014 - National Peanut Butter Fudge Day

“If you would not be forgotten, as soon as you are dead and rotten, either write things worth reading, or do things worth writing.” - Benjamin Franklin

Sunny Day, 49 degrees, forecasted low of 21 degrees, calm, 32% humidity, 0% of rain.

Another beautiful day here, woke up with more aches and pains than normal so decided to take the day and rest up recoup.

The other night I watched two series that I can’t get out of my mind, the first was Battleground Rhino Wars, I got sick to my stomach and then I got really mad, how can people be so cure to any creature is beyond me. Then I watched Ivory Wars and the same feeling came again.  People are so disappointing...

Slow day here on the homestead…

November 19, 2014 - National Play Monopoly Day

“If you don't go after what you want, you'll never have it. If you don't ask, the answer is always no. If you don't step forward, you're always in the same place.” - Nora Roberts

Sunny Day, 53 degrees, forecasted low of 21 degrees, 11 mph wind out of the West Northwest, 31% humidity, 0% of rain.

What a beautiful day here it’s 53 degrees and sunny seems like spring. When to West Plains this morning to get some dog food for my roommate and while I was there went to Walmart and picked up a few things. When I got home from the long trip to West Plains I filled up the crock pot, put the groceries away, ate breakfast, and went out and put two more pieces of wire on the chicken coop. What a beautiful day even though the wind picked up making it feel cooler…

November 18, 2014 - Mickey Mouse Birthday

“Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift of God, which is why we call it the present.” - Bil Keane

Clear Day, 35 degrees, forecasted low of 24 degrees, 8 mph wind out of the West Southwest, 34% humidity, 0% of snow.

10 degrees this morning when we went outside, burr… OK it was cold but that’s what winter is suppose be not 70 degrees and sunny…lol well things are warming up today and the snow is all but gone…I need to make a run into West Plains to get some dog food so maybe it’s a good thing for now anyway.

Not much else going on just doing some organizing and wasting time on the computer and watching tv.

That’s my day here in the Ozarks…

Cold Day and a good day to stay inside, which is what we did most of the day.

When I took out this morning on the leash found ice sickles hanging from the chicken coop, a long time since I’ve seen those…lol.

November 16, 2014 - National Fast Food Day

“I believe that love is better than hate. And that there is more nobility in building a chicken coop than in destroying a cathedral.” - Betty Greene

Cloudy Day, 30 degrees, forecasted low of 18 degrees, 4 mph wind out of the North Northwest, 87% humidity, 100% of snow.

It snowed here most of the day and this time it stuck around. LOVE IT! I have missed the four seasons for decades, now I have it again. Thankful I can stay home and enjoy it not having to go to work in it, might not think the same way about it if I had to…

Took Herc out this morning to make his deposits, he saw a dog on the edge of the property before I did and off they went, I grabbed a leash and went after them. They disappeared from my sight and I tried to follow but they were gone. Looked and listened but I could not find them, after a while I went back to the house and found Herc in front of the house looking at me like I was stupid for being out in the snow. He was ready to go inside…my 2 year old! I have to learn to use the leash all the time…

Made some videos of the snow but it takes forever to upload them to YouTube, for those who have not seen them I added the links here.

November 15, 2014 - National Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day

“For every minute you are angry you lose sixty seconds of happiness.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Cloudy Day, 34 degrees, forecasted low of 25 degrees, 6 mph wind out of the East Southeast, 63% humidity, 80% of snow.

It snowed here today but was too warm for most of it to stick around until the sun set and the temperature dropped. First snow storm in decades and I enjoyed it a lot, of course I don't have to go anywhere in it...

Herc has been dealing with it a lot better than I thought he would, though he does take care of his business faster than he use to…

November 14 2014 - NATIONAL SPICY GUACAMOLE DAY

"If someone says: 'That's impossible,' you should understand it as: According to my very limited experience and narrow understanding of reality, that's very unlikely"- Paul Buchheit

Woke up this morning it was 15 degrees outside and Herc had to go out, so out we went… when we came in he jumped back in bed and got under the covers, two hours later he hasn't been out, lol.

Went out yesterday afternoon to put the wire on the chicken coop it was in the low 30s but I dressed for it and it didn't feel bad until the wind kicked up and I got cold so I called it a day after only getting one piece of wire installed. Came in and made some hot soup… Lesson learned take advantage of the warm weather…or build an enclosed shop.

Yep got the new Darius Rucker Christmas Album
and the new Garth Brooks Man vs Machine Album.
