October 31, 2014 - National Knock-Knock Jokes Day

“The biggest adventure you can ever take is to live the life of your dreams.” - Oprah Winfrey

Sunny day 48 degrees, forecasted low of 26 degrees, 47% humidity, 17 mph wind out of the North Northwest, 0% chance of rain.

Happy Halloween all you little monsters and gremlins!

In the 40s this morning but not to deterred headed off to town to get the supplies needed for the chicken coop or chicken tractor I can’t decide. I gave Waggoner’s a lot of money and headed home to get started…

by the time I got home it was cooler and the wind was blowing pretty strong, Herc wanted no part of it and headed for the front door… I knew he was the smarter of the two of us, I tried to hold out but it wasn’t long before I too headed for the front door too, tomorrow is another day and is supposed to be warmer. Mite as well have some lunch…

Went back out this afternoon, but it was too cold... so I just had to relax, retirement is tough.

That's my day here in the Ozarks...

October 30, 2014 - National Candy Corn Day

Sunny day 65 degrees, forecasted low of 38 degrees, 48% humidity, 2 mph wind out of the North Northeast, 30% chance of rain tonight.

Woke up to a 39 degree morning, took Herc outside to make his deposits, he was ready to go back inside before I was, it was so nice, cool but nice.

Went into town to pick up some groceries and a few things from ALCO this afternoon, came home and relaxed, retirement is hard!

Talked to a nice lady tonight about an ad she has on craigslist for laying hens, they live close by so we made arrangements to meet early next week so I can get myself some chickens. I have to get busy and get a coop built. I guess I know what I’ll be doing tomorrow…

That’s about it for this day here in the Ozarks…

October 29, 2014 - National Hermit Day

Sunny day 65 degrees, forecasted low of 38 degrees, 21% humidity, 2 mph wind out of the North Northeast, 0% chance of rain.

Shortly after waking I heard a beeping sound which I didn’t recognize but when I got up the clock on the stove was flashing and eight and a half hours off. I don’t know if the power was off for eight and a half or the power came back on an hour and ten minutes before I saw the clock but the power was off. Glad I didn’t have to get up and go to work, the alarm would have let me down, or the power would have let me down, or maybe I would have missed work altogether. Good thing I don’t have to get up and go to work.

Went out to the garage to work and there was smoke in the air, I was kind worried since I came from wildfire country but it was a neighbor burning something, probably a wood burning stove.

Working in the garage didn’t last long my back wasn’t happy about it, so the internet and TV got my time instead.

Another day in my life here in the Ozarks...

October 28, 2014 - National Chocolates Day

“People say nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day.” A.A. Milne

Sunny day 69 degrees, forecasted low of 58 degrees, 22% humidity, 10 mph wind out of the North Northwest, 0% chance of rain.

Early this morning got some rain, by the time I got up it was gone… too bad.

The old back is still hurting so today is one of those days to do nothing…

Got my new tee shirt yesterday afternoon, like it!

Just another day here it the Ozarks…

October 27, 2014 - National American Beer Day

“If you think you are too small to make a difference, try sleeping with a mosquito.” ― Dalai Lama XIV

Partly Cloudy day 76 degrees, forecasted low of 58 degrees, 55% humidity, Windy, 16 mph wind out of the South, 0% chance of rain.

Woke this morning tired and just can’t wake up; afternoon still sleepy, oh well.

I heard someone on YouTube ask when is the best time to fertilize the garden. The answer came quickly, the fall that’s when God fertilizes. He went on to explain that the leaves falling from the trees and laying on the forest floor decomposing feeds the soil which in turn feeds the trees. Well here I am with a front row seat to this very thing on this windy day. I can see deeper into the woods with fewer leaves on the trees and am noticing new things every time I take the time to look.

Started to work on the hydraulic press blocks and found out that I really miss the big machine we had at my last job. The milling machine I have is a hobby machine and lacks the power for what I was trying to do, the drill press I have doesn’t have much more, lesson learned, next time go heavier duty than I think I’ll need… Worked on these blocks until my back said that’s enough, so I’ll work on them later.

Not much else today back is hurting too much, tomorrow’s another day.

My day here in the Ozarks.

October 26, 2014 - National Mule Day

“Happiness is not something ready-made. It comes from your own actions.” Dalai Lama XIV

Sunny day 83 degrees, forecasted low of 60 degrees, 45% humidity, 12 mph wind out of the South Southwest, 0% chance of rain.

Just a lazy day here, Football day and internet surfing…

This is my 40th post who would have thought...

The Lady bugs are still everywhere even a few inside the house, probably came in on my cloths...

Came across this this morning and added another project to growing list.

That's my day!
Have a great life!

October 25, 2014 - National Greasy Food Day

“If you can't fly then run, if you can't run then walk, if you can't walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.” ― Martin Luther King Jr.

Sunny day 82 degrees, forecasted low of 57 degrees, 49% humidity, 7 mph wind out of the West Northwest, 0% chance of rain. What 82 degrees!

Decided to start work on the storm shelter this morning, but, before I can start on it I need to modify the blocks for the hydraulic press, but, before I can do that I need to mount the drill press, so I worked on the workbench some more. Installed the drill press, hydraulic press, and sander, also installed an electric outlet. By the time I finished that much it was 82 degrees and I had had enough. Maybe I’ll do some in the morning, maybe.

My neighbor right across the highway from me was shooting a high powered rifle this morning,

it was very load and Herc got really scared, after a dozen shots or so over a period of a half hour or so things calmed down but a couple of hours later he is still laying on feet. Poor guy. My foot is going asleep, what I do for love!

Last night the drain line under the kitchen sink came apart and water got all over, so this morning I put it all back together and tightened it all up. Considering redoing it all but I’ll have to get some new plumbing fittings from the home improvement center, another trip to town!

Just another day in my life here in the Ozarks.

October 24, 2014 - National Bologna Day

“What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

Partly Cloudy day 71 degrees, forecasted low of 55 degrees, 63% humidity, 8 mph wind out of the West Southwest, 0% chance of rain.

Using the workbench I didn’t fail but I did learn what didn’t work for me; it just wasn’t stable enough for me with the casters that I used. Spent some time on the ole YouTube looking for a solution, and found one that I thought would work, so I ordered a set of workbench casters from Rockler Woodworking and Hardware.

They were delivered yesterday so this morning I went to Waggoner’s and picked up some more lumber and hardware. Made the modifications to the workbench and am very happy with the results, it is very stable when lowered and moves easily when raised.

The last couple of days there has been a lot of bugs flying around and flying into me when I go outside, they’re Ladybugs and their everywhere. Most be breeding season I haven’t seen that many before, kind of cool.

That’s my day here in the Ozarks….

October 23, 2014 - National Boston Cream Pie Day

“When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.”
John Lennon

Cloudy day 60 degrees, forecasted low of 48 degrees, 63% humidity, 8 mph wind out of the South Southeast, 10% chance of rain.

The cloudy day creates a beautiful soft light so I grab my camera and took a lot of pics of the fall color around the house.

Spent the rest of the morning checking out articles on homesteading on the internet, Inspirational sayings, and watching some TV.
Cool cloudy day; sounds like a good day for soup!

It's soooo gooood!

Another day here in the Ozarks…..
